EASTHAM BOARD OF ASSESSORS
Minutes of October 28, 2010 Meeting
Doreen Cahill called the meeting of the Board of Assessors to order at 10:00 a.m. in the Small Meeting Room.
Present: Assessors Cahill and Fagan, Alternate Assessor Avery, Deputy Assessor Gail McAleer, and Field Appraiser Belinda Clarey.
OLD BUSINESS:
The Board VOTED unanimously to APPROVE the minutes of the September 7, 2010 Classification Hearing and September 29, 2010 meeting.
Chairman Cahill discussed the current status of the Board’s attempt to have an article placed on the Town Meeting Warrant to exempt the Board of Assessors from the newly adopted term limit restriction. Doreen talked with Selectman John Knight regarding what constitutes a term. She also asked about Alternates serving on the Board. She’s waiting for a decision regarding these questions. Doreen Cahill also contacted Search Committee Chair, Judy Cannon regarding the proposed article. Judy is continuing to pursue this with the Search Committee.
NEW BUSINESS:
The Board discussed possible dates for meetings to field review and process the FY11 applications for abatement. Suggested dates are November 3 or 4, and November 10th. Gail McAleer will send an e-mail to the members to confirm their availability for those dates.
The Board voted unanimously to approve the renewal of the Chapter 61B application for Nauset Land Trust.
Gail McAleer reviewed the status of the FY11 abatement applications. The number of abatements received to date is low; however, taxpayers have until November 1, 2010 to file.
EXECUTIVE SESSION:
Maureen Fagan made a motion to convene Executive Session per M.G.L. c.30A, Sec. 21.
Doreen Cahill seconded.
Roll call vote was taken to enter Executive Session at 10:30 a.m.
Cahill-yes, Fagan-yes
The Board exited Executive Session at 11:00 a.m.
The meeting adjourned at 11:03 a.m.
